Mary Hannaford
PRESIDENT
Mary and her husband Jim moved full time to Hiram in 2001, after 30 years in Colorado, to his family home on South Hiram Road. At various times their little hobby farm has contained chickens, goats, and one year a pig, along with black lab and Maine coon cat. These last few years, they garden mostly vegetables and flowers. Mary became involved with the Soldiers Memorial Library Friends group after she retired from nursing, due to her love of reading and appreciation for what a library can contribute to a town. She feels that SML, now combined with the Arts Center, provides important physical and interactive resources at the end of town that often feels left out when so much is at the schools and town hall are “at the other end”.

Pat Dietzel
VICE PRESIDENT
Since her retirement from Herman Miller as Northern New England Territory Manager, Pat has been an active Board Member. After previously serving as President, she now serves on the Planning and Services Committee. Pat resides in Hiram with her husband Chuck and two dogs, Beasley and Trevie. Her participation on the Board allows her to continue to enjoy her love of the arts, and to support and explore the needs of the community.
-
Susan Hamilton
SECRETARY
Susan has lived most of her life in Hiram. She taught Kindergarten and First Grade in South Hiram for many years. Since retirement, she is enjoying her time gardening, cooking, trips to camp and volunteering for Hiram Cultural Center and the Hiram Community Club. Susan has fond memories of walking to the library every Saturday and choosing books to read. It makes her heart happy when the Cultural Center hosts events that bring children and families together!

Dan Hester
TREASURER & BUILDING MANAGER
Dan’s family moved to Hiram in 1950, when he was just five years old. He grew up in Hiram and attended local schools, where he met his future wife. Two decades after they met, they were married and raised their family here in Hiram with four children and more than a dozen grandchildren. Dan retired after working for 35 years in the local school district, where he taught chemistry, physics and math. While his knees worked well, Dan was an avid hiker and led a very active high school hiking club. This interest in out-of-doors recreation resulted in the development of the Mt Cutler Park for the Town of Hiram. Besides his devotion to the Library and the Hiram Cultural Center, Dan is also very active in the Francis Small Heritage Trust, Maine Chapter of the AMC, and Saco River Corridor Commission, and participates many in other local efforts for betterment of our community. He loves to travel, but Hiram is a great place to return to, to grow up in, and to call home!
