Exciting news from the Arts Center at 8 Hancock!
The Davis Family Foundation recently awarded the Hiram Cultural Center a generous grant to restore the striking stained glass window at the front of the Arts Center! The window was removed by Vintage Glass Works on Friday, October 9th. The restored window should be returned in about 12 weeks.
Thanks to Hiram's Historian Sally Williams for this background on the window:
"The former Methodist Church, which houses the Hiram Arts Center, was built in 1885. Called the Hatch window, it was installed by Freeman Hatch, and named for Freeman's father, William Hatch, born 1775, died 1872. Freeman was the major donor of the funding to build the church. At one point Freeman Hatch owned the Four Corners Store and the corner where Main Street, King Street, Christian Hill (Bull Ring Road), and Sebago Road met was called Hatch's Corner."
